Week 2 Story: The Rabbit and Fox

Image
There once was a group of ten young rabbits, nine of them as meek as they come but one was as bold as the sun was hot. The group of rabbits had been told by their elders that when the fox was near that they must be quieter than the mice next door. The elders never told them why they must be quiet but their was a fox that always wandered near because he knew that many small animals lived in that area and one day he would have a great feast before winter came. Everyday right as the sun would awaken the fox would set out with his ear to the ground and his body crouching real low until he blended in with the forest floor. On this particular day the elders had set out to gather supplies and left the ten young rabbits alone. They were under strict instructions not to make a peep. The young rabbits grew tired of the silence and started to play a game. They played and played and the nine meek rabbits were very quiet but when the one rabbit that was bolder than the sun would win he would le

Reading Notes Anthology

I am actually not very fond of animal stories. I am not to sure if its because they are supposed to portray humans and have human like qualities, so I don’t really understand why there is a need to use animals and I also read a lot of stories with animals in them as a child. So maybe it feels like I never grew up from the lessons you are supposed to learn when your parents tell the story. I guess what I am getting at is that I shouldn’t have to read stories that teach if I am old enough to know better. Among the stories I really like the turtle and the geese. I think I identified with the turtle because if someone says something I don’t like, I AM GOING TO RESPOND, no matter who they are. That sometimes gets me into trouble like a lot and sometimes it is better to keep quiet than respond. Kind of like the saying, ‘It’s better for them to think you are stupid than open your mouth and confirm it.’ Which now that I am older I do know that it is sometimes better not to respond. T

Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
The main reason I choose the free domain because its mostly online and I don't have to go searching for it and I can access it on my phone at work or on the go which makes it really convenient for me especially since I don't take my back pack to work but my phone is always on me. The reason I choose the Ganga comic was because the comic book cover reminded me of a Greek mythology story how how one of the goddess's was born from Zeus's head and I like to make connections on stories because it helps me remember stories better. I then chose Shiva Parvati because I like to see how love stories are portrayed in different cultures. Is it similar to American culture or do that always have happy endings like in fairy tales.  For the videos I love food so when I see something about food I am more than likely inclined to click it and see what type of food will be mentioned. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw butter and I'm not sure why but it was probably because that is a

Technology

Technology If I can figure out how to incorporate GIFs and find the original image source for memes I'm pretty sure this blog will be a replica of my actual twitter. I have a bit of experience with Canva and making posters for different organizations that I have been involved in. I have also created a wix page before for an assignment in my women in medicine class which was really easy to navigate.  Screenshot from Wix Page Source: Wix

Assignments

Assignments I think that I am most excited to see the different types of writing styles that my classmates come up with. I am also just a little nervous about projects, they give me slight anxiety because even though I am no artist I am a perfectionist at heart. I think I would more likely do the extra reading if it came down to it. I am VERY excited about the readings just from reading the few storybooks of past students and be able to compare them to the stories that I read in my Gods and Hero's in Art class that I took two years ago here. I really enjoy the aspect of having absolute control of how this class works. Which is something that you really don't get to experience in a traditional classroom setting.  I am nervous but also excited to see how this class will pan out.  Nervous Excitement Source: Flickr

Growth Mindset

Image
Growth Mindset Source: Flickr Ehh....the growth mindset. I am not sure how much I like it. I like the concept of it. The feel good " if you put good out in the world you'll get good back". I am just not sure how accurate that is for everyone some children thrive off praise and it makes them want to do better like when your parents say "I'm proud of you". They say I'm proud of YOU not some process because you already know how much it took to get there. But I also like that it says intelligence is something that has no bounds and can be obtained. My soccer coach used to say " hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard", which is true if you really work at something you can pass the person that was naturally gifted.  I think their is little harm in praising the process but I also think you should reward the person as well. It should be a balance between both.

Introduction to a Hot Mess

Image
About Me I am a Capricorn, born on January 11th. I am currently majoring in Biology. After undergrad I will be getting my masters in HR and then going to medical school. Talking about myself so I asked my family and friends to describe me. I love to cook, I played soccer in high school and also ran cross country. I did this horrible thing where I decided to take Latin as my language of choice. I still have mixed reviews about it. I am obsessed with candles especially citrus and fresh cotton or laundry smells. I unfortunately am not a trust fund baby so with that being said I work at Walgreen's and I used to be a resident advisor. I have just recently picked up a job bar-tending. I love my friends like they are my family. I love to dance. I am also a Christian. I don't particularity like going out much. I am a twitter addict. Hard -working and goal oriented. I LOVE children but am or may not want one. My sister thinks that I am loving, caring, very caring, compassionate,

StoryBooks Favorites

Story Books Motherhood- MotherHood I think that the introduction was really well written. The poem aspect really allowed myself to feel what the stories would entail. The story of the two sisters slightly reminded me of the story of Moses I believed being sent down the river. I like that the perspective is on the mother its like seeing the main story but not from the protagonist. I did not feel as much of a connection to these stories because I am not a mother but it allowed me to see how much mothers are willing to sacrifice for children. Although extreme I believe that the two sisters story really shows a mothers fear of how their child will grow up in the world. Krishna- Krishna I really appreciate the quirkiness of how the author made Krishna show himself as outside of time. I also like how this story makes me think of my favorite children's show Avatar the Last Airbender. I also really appreciate how the story is being written not as if I am reading a book that is

Favorite Place

Favorite Place As you can probably tell my favorite place is the University of Oklahoma. I am not really sure why this is my favorite but when I starting thinking about where my favorite place might be this place was the only thing I could think of besides sleep. I think this might be my little special place because this was where I got my first glimpse into adult life and I also got to decide what I was doing and not someone else making my choices for me. I got to be me and this place is where I discovered  myself but that's what college is supposed to do right. University of Oklahoma- Bizzell Memorial Library Source:  Flickr
