Reading Week 15 Part B: Sita Sings the Blues

Image
I really like the in-between characters of the storytelling. I think that I could do a scene similar to the one where they are all running to Sita as she is going back to her mother. I think that would be a nice scene to recreate but make it similar to a game show. The contestants would be Rama and her two sons. I also could do something like how when Dave emailed Nina to break up with her but make it Sita and Rama and make it more modern. But I really do think I will stay with the Betty Boop theme or maybe even Olive from Popeye cause I also felt like that was something that this movie reminded me of. The balance of comedy and seriousness will be really hard to tackle but I think I can do it. Source:  Indian Epics Bibliography:  Sita Sings The Blues

Reading Week 15 Part A: Sita Sings The Blues

Image
I watched Sita sings the blues. It was very comical especially with the storytellers messing up every so often. I think knowing the original story of Sita and how she also had powers I was thinking have a scene where she is gonna end Ravana's life but then decided not to because again her husband is supposed to be the one to save her as she mentioned in the story. I another scene that I really enjoyed from this episode was when they told them how they were being banished for 14 years. I think using this video to recreate a story is going to be a challenge because it was comical in very serious elements. I think I can manage to create a funny element in this story. I found Sita to be very similar to Betty Bop in this story, so I may look into elements of that to create this week's story. Source: IMDB Story: Sita Sings The Blues

Reading B: The Life of Budddha

Image
I think I can use part B to make a story of how a king goes to having all these riches and even though he isn’t indulgent he still loses everything, similar to the story of Job. I could go into detail of all his riches especially with the way they describe the chariot. I can also do a story of an old man looking back over his life and instead of being sad that he is aging being happy that he got to live a long full life. The story Eager to Know the Great Truths would be a great way to add to how he became a monk. I think the story set up would be similar to someone finding these stories in a library and attempting to become a monk. I think I could start with the person that wants to become a monk with becoming a hermit. I think I could possibly combine my two ideas and have a king that gives up his riches to be a monk because of some stories that he read in the library. I think the primary focus would be the king talking to his advisors and then giving up his riches. I could then do a

Reading Notes A: Life of Buddha

Image
I read the Life of Buddha by Andre Ferdinand Herold. In Maya’s dream, I see another elephant mentioned. I wonder if I could compile all the elephant story elements and make one massive elephant story that has a centralized theme. Or I could take the story from the elephants perspective and the importance of bringing the dream to Maya. It would be similar tot he Alice in Wonderland bunny that always had the clock and was running in order to get to the party on time. I could also do a story from the dream interpreters perspective. I think instead of the story being predictable I think I will have the dream interpreters attempt to scam them but then have a small child give the real interpretation. I also could do a version where he is trying to become a monk and how the challenge was for him but not Buddha specifically. It also talks of the many miracles that happened when the baby was born. I was thinking of maybe using a similar biblical story but from the blind man’s point of view. I

Week 11 Krishna Part B

Image
I watched the YouTube version online. I like that it was fast past however I don't know if I liked the stories. They weren't bad but thematically I didn't like the elements in the story. I remember a lot of elephants being in the stories which kind if gave me an idea to maybe do a dream sequence where Krishna keeps running into an animal and not necessarily a elephant but a way smaller animal that is very aggressive like a raccoon or a honey badger. I could make like a joke story and do a mixture of that very old viral video on honey badger don't care and mix it with fights from Krishna. I could also do an adopt parent story and tie it in with the story of Krishna taming the bull. I know that may be a possible problematic topic and am very hesitant to write on that so I don't offend anyone. Although, I could use a stray animal that has a rabid personality that warms up to its owner over time as they are shown kindness to them. I think that maybe the way that I go. T

Week 10: My First Step

Image
Source: Walking Child If I just adjust myself a bit here and here, then I can walk a little bit. The young child was off in a corner slowly pushing their self of the couch. They had young toddler had finally gotten to where they were balanced and just teetering back in forth trying to gauge how much weight to put on their feet. While the young toddler was so focused on figuring out how to walk, they didn’t notice their parents in the background silently cheering. “Ben come here! Look! Be Quiet!”, the mother exclaimed excitedly. The mother had been waiting for forever to see her first born walk. She was so excited she could barely contain it. She rushed to grab her phone and record the toddler’s first steps. She knew that the child was right around the corner to walk. The toddler had been slowly pulling their self-up for weeks and standing alone when they got the chance. Then there it was caught on camera the first few steps. The mother could not contain her excitement and ye

Reading Notes Week 10 Part B ( Jataka Tales)

Image
I think the wise merchant story would be a nice one to work with. I am not sure how I would flip it for the story but I do think that it gives an element maybe making siblings and the "demon" be the parents and going from there. The girly-face story was interesting I think it might be a good story to retell but use the Santa Claus having a young child really excited for Christmas but then overhear some talking about how he isn't real and have him act out for a bit and get the parents to have Santa Claus send him a letter and then he is back to normal. I wasn't too fond of the Banyan deer and The three princes story. I didn't really like how the story went. The white elephant story wasn't something that I could personally work with either. Unless I made the elephant like a beggar that was taken in my a circus and then go from there. The pig and ox story would be a great on thing that would be great for envy. I could do a rich man and a poor man and make it s

Reading Notes 10: Jakata Tales Part A

Image
I kind of liked the crocodile and monkey story I don’t know if there is enough move around in the story for my mind to work with. I need a more vague story unless I changed the setting altogether. I am not a trickster at heart so coming up with a way to make this story my own would be a serious challenge for me. Which I guess would force me to broaden my creative ability. I think the turtle story is also a little straightforward. I am not sure how I could flip this story. I wouldn’t even know where to place this story what elements I would add for a personal touch to the story. So far reading these stories and coming up with a story that I would be happy with and make my own will be a challenge. The merchant story it reminds me of how in the beauty and the beast the man turned away the beggar and it turned out to be an enchantress. I think this would be a great way to retell the story of the greedy merchant and the golden bowl. Then adding an element to the story were the cur

Week 9 Reading Online Film A

Image
I read/ watched the online film. It was a different experience. I think I had an easier time following the story with the online film then the reading. Like if I would gave watch the film and then did the reading, I think things would have flowed a little better for me. I also think the film leave more to the imagination. It allows you to fill in the gaps and I think it gives me or creative range. I think it was to be expected because you can fit more into a book then in a movie. I think this retelling was more factual then story like. To me it didn't really give the characters emotions or motivations.  I think I would watch the episodes and find which story would interest me the most and then go and read that portion of the epic. I also really like this online version because I can control how I watch it and how fast the story goes. I often find myself stuck on a sentence or the names starting to blend together so it was a refreshing being able to get the same story in a new way b

Reading Notes Week 7 part D

Image
In this reading there was a lot of descriptive fighting and sometimes the story elements remind me of a childhood tV show avatar airbender and I think incorporating one of my favorite childhood tv shows and the fights would be a great element especially since they either the four elements as a weapon and instead of everyone being able to use one of the elements to fight only a few ( honestly I could choose the Pandava brothers) and have them control an element and that could be a gift that the gods grant them. But I could also incorporate Karma because with great responsibility comes great sacrifice. And I know that there are five brothers and only 4 elements but the most worthy brother would be able to control all four elements like in the avatar and then I could make it to where they die like when they drank from the lake on how they would have to repay with their lives for having such a great power. I could use all the mini battles to tell how they used their battles. Although descr

Week 6 Reading Part B

Image
Bhima and Rama seem very similar to me there could possibly be a storyline where they are swamped sort of like a parent trap theme and only kunti and sita would be able to tell them apart and notice the difference between the two. Or even doing a story were they parallel each other and show their similarities between their adventures seeing as they both travel with their brothers. Now Draupadi would be an interesting tale to retell because like mentioned having 5 husbands is very uncommon and how praying 5 times landed her with five husbands. I guess you could kind of spin it to where Shiva was bored and wanted to be ‘extra’ in a sense and grant her wishes exactly as asked. I think also making a story about how specific the curses are that they call people by name in their curses they can break them would be a great way to tell a story. Also in these stories they seem to fall in love at a glance I think incorporating a god of love story into these tells and how he/she is always making

Week 6 Reading PD Mahabharata A

Image
I think a nice little spin on Sita and Rama story when he wins her at the tournament would be having Bhishma also compete but fighting against Rama and then having another king intervene and saying that he had 3 daughters that he can have instead of Sita. I could also use elements of the contest mentioned in this story for more levels ending at a final brawl for Sita kind of like an Olympic games of love. I kind it kind of sad that Pandu had a favorite wife and it was constantly mentioned and I think it would be a great story line for Kunti to be able to have a view of what it was like to be the least favorite wife and her trying to do her duty but constantly being pushed aside until the very end. I think making a storybook on the Pandava brothers adventures would be neat and making up wild tales as if they were bedtimes stories. I think you could also do a who am I type of story with the boy whose mother sent him away in the river and make the story sound similar to Moses and at the

Reading Notes Part B

Image
The second half of this comic book gave me a lot of Romeo and Juliet vibes. Then it gave me Rapunzel vibes when she was taken from Rama with the golden deer story. I also think that maybe Rama and Sita were't meant to be together if she was constantly being banished or leaving. Also if you want to make a lite heart story  you could tell of the story when Rama first became a father after he got custody of the twins and his journey of becoming a father and learning the joys of fatherhood and have him praying to Sita often to ask how she did and get guidance. I could also use elements of the Yama story and create a tale of how Rama traveled and talked to death about getting Sita back. I could also do a story from death's point of view that would more than likely a more comical stand point focusing on the battle to get Sita back from Ravana. It would go something like a biography and him talking about how he is constantly working and people are always trying to get a 'refund

Reading Notes Part A Sita

Image
I enjoyed the comic book that I read Sita. For my story book I was thinking of doing creation stories so Sita being in the earth and how she got there would be a great spin that you could put so many spins on.   Also another good thing about this story is I could do a showman ship of champions that are trying to win Sita’s hand in marriage with the bow being lifted.   I could make it into a whole event kind of like in brave when she fought for her own hand. I could start off by showing Sita lifting the bow and then having the contestants come after her and have more then just the lifting of the bow. Another good thing to draw from this comic book is the time Rama had the throne stolen for him and going from the brother’s point of view and how he felt betrayed by his own mother and then going out on an adventure to find his brother and the consequences the mother face and then having Rama tell his brother that it is not their mothers fault but she was doing what destiny had intend

Reading Notes Anthology

Image
I am actually not very fond of animal stories. I am not to sure if its because they are supposed to portray humans and have human like qualities, so I don’t really understand why there is a need to use animals and I also read a lot of stories with animals in them as a child. So maybe it feels like I never grew up from the lessons you are supposed to learn when your parents tell the story. I guess what I am getting at is that I shouldn’t have to read stories that teach if I am old enough to know better. Among the stories I really like the turtle and the geese. I think I identified with the turtle because if someone says something I don’t like, I AM GOING TO RESPOND, no matter who they are. That sometimes gets me into trouble like a lot and sometimes it is better to keep quiet than respond. Kind of like the saying, ‘It’s better for them to think you are stupid than open your mouth and confirm it.’ Which now that I am older I do know that it is sometimes better not to respond. T

Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
The main reason I choose the free domain because its mostly online and I don't have to go searching for it and I can access it on my phone at work or on the go which makes it really convenient for me especially since I don't take my back pack to work but my phone is always on me. The reason I choose the Ganga comic was because the comic book cover reminded me of a Greek mythology story how how one of the goddess's was born from Zeus's head and I like to make connections on stories because it helps me remember stories better. I then chose Shiva Parvati because I like to see how love stories are portrayed in different cultures. Is it similar to American culture or do that always have happy endings like in fairy tales.  For the videos I love food so when I see something about food I am more than likely inclined to click it and see what type of food will be mentioned. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw butter and I'm not sure why but it was probably because that is a
